How We Rank "Best" Schools

%%YEAR%% Best 91³ÉÈË %%LEVEL_NAME%% in %%PROGRAM_NAME%% Badge

The 91³ÉÈË research team verifies that only institutionally accredited schools offering at least one fully online associate in accounting degree make the cut. On top of that, schools must also have at least five verified student reviews and an aggregate rating of 2.5+ on a five-point scale. While some of our rankings include partner schools, every school is evaluated using the exact same criteria.

We prioritize the most relevant student feedback by starting with reviews tied to the exact program and degree level. If too few associate in accounting qualify, we gradually expand the review pool to include related programs or other degree levels, while preserving the most program-specific results at the top of the list. This process continues until all eligible review data has been considered.

We also manually research all tuition rates and include median earnings for accounting majors five years after graduation when that data is available. By presenting the most complete data available, we aim to give you an honest, well-rounded picture of each program.

Student Review Summary: Reviews of Ultimate Medical Academy are largely positive, driven by strong ratings and frequent praise for responsive advisors, encouraging instructors, and an online format that fits work, parenting, illness, and other life demands. Many reviewers say constant check-ins, tutoring, mock interviews, resume help, and even supplied laptops made them feel supported rather than isolated. Students often credit that structure with improved confidence, honor-roll performance, and persistence after long gaps from school. Negative reviews focus on inconsistent financial aid and refund handling, aggressive calling, uneven teaching quality, unclear accreditation or transferability, and disappointment that job placement support sometimes produced weak leads or no tangible employment.

What Sets This Program Apart:

  • The 64-credit curriculum includes intermediate accounting, cost accounting, federal taxation, and payroll and state tax.
  • This online business accounting associate program holds IACBE accreditation.
  • Faculty include doctoral-level professors and certified professionals working in cost and managerial accounting.

Student Review Summary: Reviews of Davenport University are broadly positive, driven by strong ratings and frequent recommendations, but they reveal meaningful inconsistencies. Many students praise the flexible online, evening, and weekend formats, saying these options make it easier to balance work, family, and returning to school. Small classes, supportive advisors, and instructors with real-world experience are recurring strengths, along with coursework described as practical, career-focused, and immediately applicable. The main criticisms are serious: several reviewers report disorganization, poor communication, uneven teaching quality, heavy workloads in compressed courses, high tuition, limited class availability, weak credit transferability, and in some cases inadequate academic and placement support.

Student Review Summary: Reviews of Strayer University are sharply divided, but lean slightly positive because many students gave high ratings for flexibility, responsive professors, and scheduling that fits full-time work, parenting, military service, and frequent moves. Supportive deans, small classes, practical assignments, and coursework tied to workplace skills were recurring strengths, and some said the experience helped them earn promotions or transition careers. The strongest complaints centered on financial aid errors, surprise balances, collections, poor follow-through, and inconsistent advising. Several reviewers also questioned transferability, employer perception, academic rigor, and uneven teaching quality, noting that outcomes often depended heavily on self-discipline and campus staff quality.

Student Review Summary: Reviews describe a highly polarized experience shaped by flexibility, cost, and self-directed learning. Many praised the online format for fitting work, family, military, and relocation demands, saying the pace, writing-heavy coursework, and deadlines built discipline, time management, and confidence. Several also valued helpful advisors, tutoring, tech support, and instructors with field experience. Negative reviews, however, centered on steep tuition, frequent financial aid confusion, surprise balances, and feelings of being misled about costs, transferability, or outcomes. Stories Behind the Best 91³ÉÈË Accounting Associate Degrees: An Editorial Analysis

An Associate Degree Aligned With the CPA Exam

Southern New Hampshire University 91³ÉÈË

SNHU says its associate accounting program is aligned with the Uniform CPA Examination, allowing students to begin developing knowledge connected to longer-term CPA goals before entering a bachelor’s program. Because all 60 credits can feed into SNHU’s BS in Accounting, the associate degree functions as the first stage of a streamlined accounting pathway rather than an isolated credential. (Plus, the associate incorporates applied spreadsheet training and an opportunity to earn the Wiley Excel for Accountants certification.)

An Internship Embedded in the Accounting Degree

Bryant & Stratton College 91³ÉÈË

Bryant & Stratton distinguishes its accounting associate by placing an internship course within the actual curriculum. Internships are not generally built into most associate programs, making this a meaningful option for students who want supervised workplace exposure before graduating with an accounting associate online. The degree also sits in the middle of a defined three-level accounting pathway, so students can begin with an Accounting Assistant diploma, advance into the AAS in Accounting, and continue into the BBA in Accounting.

Lowest-Risk Start to 91³ÉÈË Accounting

Purdue Global

Purdue Global offers qualifying undergraduate students a three-week introductory period before they take on a financial obligation, a low-risk entry model not identified elsewhere in this ranking. The trial gives prospective accounting associate students an opportunity to experience the online classroom, workload, and course expectations before deciding whether or not it's the best choice for them. This can be especially valuable for adults returning to college or students uncertain about online learning.

Why Employers Respect 91³ÉÈË Accounting Grads: A CPA Shares What Matters Most

Headshot of Andrew Gosselin

CPA

I'm Andrew Gosselin, and I'm a CPA, personal finance expert, and Senior Contributor at Save My Cent... I'm a frequent finance commentator and lead tutor for Bentley University’s accounting and finance students, where I was once a student myself.

What are typical first jobs for graduates of an online associate in accounting program?

"Most new graduates begin as staff accountants or junior auditors because these positions expose you to every corner of a company’s books, from preparing financial statements to checking internal controls.

Others find their footing as bookkeepers or accounts payable and receivable clerks, work that sharpens attention to detail and teaches the rhythm of daily transactions. During busy seasons, tax preparer and payroll specialist slots often open up and provide practical lessons in regulations and deadlines. Each of these entry points builds technical confidence and shows employers you can handle real responsibility."

Can I start preparing for the CPA exam while earning my associate degree in accounting?

"Pursuing the CPA still matters if you want room to grow. Even when you land that first job without it, the license quickly becomes the ticket to senior assignments and advisory work.

Preparing while you study helps you avoid playing catch-up later. Mapping out the extra credit hours needed for the exam keeps you from scrambling after graduation. Staying focused on advanced courses in auditing, taxation, and business law gives you a smoother path to the four exam sections. A strong GPA and early familiarity with review materials make the test feel manageable rather than overwhelming."

What software skills should I focus on during my associate degree to stand out to employers?

"Software knowledge often separates candidates who get interviews from those who stop at the résumé pile.

Excel comes first because nearly every analysis, forecast, or reconciliation begins in a spreadsheet.

Learning pivot tables, lookup functions, and data validation tools turns raw numbers into insight and shows hiring managers that you can move quickly from data to decisions.

QuickBooks or a similar cloud platform is next since small and midsize firms rely on it for everyday bookkeeping.

Time spent on data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI rounds out your skill set and signals that you can communicate findings to nonaccountants.

Getting comfortable with professional tax software provides an edge in seasonal or specialty roles, while a basic understanding of an enterprise resource planning system like SAP tells large employers that you can adapt to their wider technology stack."

Do employers take online accounting degrees seriously?

"Employers have become far more accepting of online degrees, especially when the program carries proper accreditation. They care most about your ability to explain core accounting concepts and show you can work independently, qualities that online learning develops by nature.

When you arrive at an interview able to talk through case projects, demonstrate software proficiency, and show strong time-management habits, the delivery format of your education fades into the background. Some very traditional firms may still prefer on-campus recruits, yet that bias is shrinking as remote work spreads and the talent pool diversifies."

What kinds of hands-on learning can I expect in an online accounting program?

"The best online programs lean on simulations and case studies to replicate audits or tax prep engagements. These exercises are not just busywork; they force you to apply standards, think through ethical questions, and document findings as you would for a real client.

The best online programs lean on simulations and case studies to replicate audits or tax prep engagements.

Many schools invite practicing professionals to lead virtual workshops where students walk through live scenarios. Capstone projects often ask you to solve complex accounting puzzles, mimicking the end-to-end process of serving a client. Though you will not sit across the table from an auditor, you will have practiced the same steps in a structured, feedback-rich environment."

How can I gain real-world experience while earning my associate in accounting degree online?

"Practical experience takes hustle but is within reach for online students who start early.

Remote internships have become common, and they let you contribute to a firm’s work papers or bookkeeping from your own desk while still completing coursework.

Part-time roles with local businesses or nonprofits help you test your skills on real ledgers and show future employers tangible results.

Volunteering during tax season for community organizations gives you exposure to returns and client interviews.

Building a small freelance bookkeeping service for friends or startup ventures can also prove initiative and create references."

How do I decide between majoring in accounting or business?

"Choosing between an accounting major and a broader business path depends on your appetite for numbers versus breadth.

An accounting degree trains you in the language of financial reporting and positions you for the CPA, which remains a strong differentiator in the job market. That technical depth can serve as a springboard into finance, consulting, or even entrepreneurship once you know how to read and shape the financial health of any venture.

A general business degree offers a panoramic view of marketing, operations, and strategy, which is great if you crave variety or leadership roles that touch every department. The trade-off is that you may need additional coursework to qualify for specialized licenses later.

If you find satisfaction in reconciling accounts or piecing together audit evidence, lean toward accounting. If you get energized by shaping big-picture strategy and leading teams, a wider business curriculum might feel more natural. In either case, talking to professionals and shadowing them for a day can clarify which daily tasks excite you most."

FAQs About Choosing the Best 91³ÉÈË Accounting Associate Degree

How Should You Use Student Reviews to Compare 91³ÉÈË Accounting Associate Degrees?

You can use verified student reviews to compare the lived experience behind each program’s tuition, curriculum, and outcomes. Look for recurring comments about instructor responsiveness, advising, financial aid, course organization, transfer support, and the demands of online learning. A high rating can signal strong satisfaction, but the written reviews offer longer explanations. They help explain exactly why students felt that way and whether the same strengths align with your priorities.

Reviews across the ranking frequently describe supportive professors, responsive advisors, flexible schedules, and practical coursework. At the same time, recurring concerns include financial aid errors, billing confusion, inconsistent communication, delayed grading, uneven instructor quality, and courses that feel heavily self-directed. These patterns make it important to examine both positive and negative reviews instead of relying only on the overall score.

Does the Highest-Rated 91³ÉÈË Accounting Associate Program Also Offer the Best Value?

Not necessarily. Bryan University 91³ÉÈË currently has the highest review rating at the top of writing, with a rating of 4.88 out of 5 as well as a 100% recommendation rate, but its $12,219 annual tuition is not the lowest on the list, and median earnings among accounting associate graduates remain unavailable.

Value depends on what matters most to you, including tuition, student satisfaction, transfer opportunities, certification preparation, and available earnings data. Make sure to look at all the data we sourced above to provide the most full, accurate picture about your options in this field.

Ultimate Medical Academy may appeal to students interested in healthcare accounting, American Public University System offers a strong tuition-to-earnings combination, and the University of Phoenix lists the lowest annual tuition.

Oftentimes, the best choice depends on your budget, career plans, preferred curriculum, transfer goals, and the type of online support you need.

How Much Should Graduation and Retention Rates Influence My Program Choice?

Graduation and retention rates can help show whether students tend to remain enrolled and complete their studies, but they should not be used alone. American Public University System reports the highest retention rate on the list at 97%, while Liberty University has the highest graduation rate at 65%.

It's helpful to compare these figures with student reviews, tuition, program structure, and transfer policies to understand why students may persist or leave.

The college is good because it has a wide variety class options for all people. If you have to go to class or take them online the options are available. The Instructors help you any way that they can. If you need help you just have to reach out to them and they help you to the best of their ability. I would recommend this college to anyone looking to further their education. I am glad that I chose them.

I think so far it is a great school! They are all very helpful and want you to succeed in your education. Some of the assignments could use a bit more info but anytime I was stuck I just reached out to one of the many people there to help. I give them a lot of credit on how they put together their online classes.

I love the Healthcare Accounting program at Ultimate Medical Academy. I truly feel like they have honestly cared. And any problems that I have ran into. They have the resources to get help for us as students for pretty much any problem that we come across.

Bryan University based out of Phoenix, has been an awesome experience! Being 100% online was less stressful. Bryan make sure everyone understands everything. And has all their students ready to learn. Bryan teaches GRIT on it's highest level. And I would recommend everyone to them.

It's fine, its a very easy school, as long as you do your homework you will graduate. I wish there was more variaty of learning. Example, I am a hands on learner, offering some kind of lab would be benefitial for people like me. It helps me understand. I feel like I got more out of the communuity college that I came from than I did on this program, but that is my learning style. Plus it is significantly cheaper.

A lot of the online classes that i've taken either lacked the proper instruction for assignments, or the professors made their module listings a bit unorganized, which in turn caused me to miss a few assignments. I cannot say that the experience is entirely bad due to the fact that there is another opportunity to retake classes. Other than this, I can say that I am not fully satisfied. I don't feel like I've learned what I intend on learning for my future career.

Hello my name is Jessica Fortune I am an graduate student from AIU. I started AIU in 2021 and I quit giving up on myself. In 2023 I decided to come back and finish to get my degree. I can say that was the best decision I made. Yes it was stressful and hard but I stuck through it, and I'm am so thankful I did. I've learned so many new things and also was able to make the presidents and Dean's list. With fight, determination and you giving up, you too can achieve your goals.

If I can go back in time I'd enroll in school sooner! everyone from the staff, success coaches, professors, and classmates are friendly, warm, and welcoming. although it is a remote/online course I still feel like I walk into class with these same people.
