How We Rank "Most Affordable" Schools
The 91³ÉÈË research team manually collects and verifies tuition data for every school on our lists, ensuring you see accurate, up-to-date costs whether you're pursuing an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program. To qualify, schools must offer fully online degrees, hold institutional accreditation, and have verifiable enrollment data through the National Center for Education Statistics. While some of our rankings include partner schools, every school is evaluated using the exact same criteria.
We prioritize schools that offer a consistent tuition rate across programs at the same degree level, so you're not caught off guard by unexpected price differences between majors, and for graduate programs we go a step further by individually calculating program costs since credit requirements and fees vary widely.

Expert Advice: Choosing the Right Affordable 91³ÉÈË MBA For You
Career Coach for Emerging Business Leaders
Is it more strategic today to pursue a general MBA online or a targeted one?
"I would say this depends predominantly on what industry you’re in and your ultimate career goals. A general MBA is still likely to be the best choice for those who plan to move into executive leadership, where it’s a benefit to have a broad base of business knowledge.
I would also recommend a general MBA for individuals who are early in their career, or who have recently or are about to switch career paths. It keeps more options and niches open, and you can always pursue certifications or other ongoing education if you do want to add more specificity to your credentials in the future.
Where I’d recommend a targeted MBA is for those who have a clear career path in mind, especially if that career is in a technical industry like healthcare management, fintech, data analytics, cybersecurity, etc. In these situations, a specialized degree can quickly demonstrate you have the specific skills and knowledge for the role and help you to stand out in competitive fields."
What kinds of experiences should students prioritize in an online MBA to stand out to employers?
"In general, the best projects are ones that demonstrate strategic thinking and have a direct, measurable impact on the business. This can include things like strategy consulting, ESG consulting, or technology integration/digital transformation projects.
"Define what you want from the degree before you start. These goals should then guide everything you do, from which school you attend and the type of MBA you pursue..."
A side note here, this can be an advantage of earning an online MBA while continuing your career, because you’ll have a built-in setting to start applying your knowledge in real-world settings that can carry extra weight on a resume compared to school-related projects."
What's one key piece of advice to someone starting an online MBA program?
"Define what you want from the degree before you start. These goals should then guide everything you do, from which school you attend and the type of MBA you pursue, through the electives you take and projects you work on during the program."
Founder & CEO, Growth Operator
Is an affordable online MBA still worth pursuing in today's job market?
"I graduated in May 2026 with my MBA. I did both in person and online in an expedited program at the University of Montana in three grueling semesters. Here is what I found: an online MBA is still worth pursuing as long as your goal is to find one golden nugget per class or exercise.
The exposure to more real world examples and situations is much more helpful than the undergrad programs (both in person or online). In today's job market, my experience is that [an MBA] is beneficial during recruiting hiring, and [it also improves] the way a person communicates or sets goals and expectations."
What separates a strong online MBA program from one that may not provide much career value?
-
"A strong online program provides a level of volume and focus on a one-key business you grow and work through all year long. The ability to build out a year's capstone on a relevant business was very helpful.
-
Things I would avoid are programs that are excessive in cost and allow you to simply AI your way through it. The gain may help in an interview or in your work for a day by having the designation, but your knowledge and capability will show through in time."
How important is networking in online MBA programs?
"I found networking to be not very helpful especially online. You're engaging with students all over the place, and that doesn't lead to great support in a job hunt or in your local business."
Are expensive MBA programs usually worth the added cost, or can affordable programs provide similar career outcomes?
"Costly MBA programs are not a value add. As a business leader, your goal is to learn to make great ROI decisions and 50-100k programs will need quite some time to return on that investment."
What advice would you give professionals trying to balance work and school while earning an MBA online?
"As a senior executive throughout my MBA program, set the expectation with your family you will be in the office late. [And] don't take school work home; do it before you leave. As your capacity is diminished, be sure to be present when you're away from the office."
EXPERT TIP
"Lean on your instructors to provide homework and assignments as early as possible so you can complete them early so you have capacity to be a professional and maintain your career."

How Much Does an 91³ÉÈË MBA Cost?
The cost of an online MBA can vary widely. For the top 16 schools on our most affordable online MBAs list, the total cost of tuition for a two-year program ranges from $4,128 to $10,665. When students widen their search beyond the most affordable online schools, they'll find some online programs totaling as much as $107,000 or more.
To compare program costs, it's also helpful to consider per-credit tuition fees. In general, an MBA requires the completion of 30 semester credits (and more if the student needs to take prerequisite courses). For the most affordable online MBA programs, cost per credit ranges from $257 to $385.
Various factors are not reflected in tuition rates that students may need to consider:
- Costs of books and other supplies
- Annual and one-time-only fees charged by many schools, such as for the application, technology, and graduation fees
- Childcare, for students who have small children at home
- Interest that will need to be paid on a student loan, if that type of financing is needed
- Costs associated with on-site meetings, including transportation and accommodations, as some graduate programs require students to be on campus for orientation and/or practicums, workshops, and conferences
However, MBA students may be able to offset the cost of their online degrees in several ways. For instance, some newly admitted students may be able to obtain credits from previous work experience, military service, or other professional training. They may also demonstrate their knowledge of certain subjects on assessment exams, which can reduce the number of prerequisite and required courses needed to graduate. Some online MBA students may also qualify for scholarships, fellowships, grants, and tuition discounts. These are forms of financial assistance that don’t need to be paid back. We've provided additional information about funding an online MBA program below.
What Financial Aid Is Available for 91³ÉÈË MBA Students?
As you're considering various online MBA programs, you'll naturally want to think about the tuition fees and other costs in earning a degree. Keep in mind that students enrolled in accredited online MBA programs are eligible for financial aid. To apply, simply submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once your application has been processed, you'll be notified if you qualify for federal, state, or school-sponsored aid.
Grants and scholarships are the preferred types of financial aid because they typically don't need to be repaid. Your employer may also offer some type of tuition reimbursement or other financial assistance.
Student loans are another option, but the interest can add a substantial amount to the total cost of an MBA. Before signing on the dotted line, it's helpful to take the time to pull out a calculator and determine the full cost of a loan. Also remember that federal student loans often have lower interest rates and better repayment plans than private student loans.
What Scholarships Are Available for 91³ÉÈË MBA Students?
Students interested in a graduate business degree can use university scholarships and private grants to help pay for their degree. The first step to apply for financial aid involves filling out the FAFSA. This form requests applicants' personal and financial information to determine how much aid they're eligible for. While the FAFSA can also be used to apply for financial aid in the form of federal loans, scholarships are often a better option as students don't have to repay them.
Below is an example of a scholarship opportunity for individuals enrolled in or planning to enroll in an online MBA program:
- Orbis Investment Fellowship: Individuals who demonstrate a passion for investing can receive cash through this merit-based award. This scholarship is open to students regardless of their demographic background.
Is Getting an 91³ÉÈË MBA Worth the Cost?
When considering an online MBA, financial implications are paramount. Data from a 2020 survey by the shows that newly graduated MBA holders earn about $20,000 more annually than their bachelor's-degree counterparts. Over a lifetime, this increase can significantly boost total earnings, making the degree appealing. However, the high cost of an MBA, which can sometimes be a deterrent, should be weighed carefully.
Critics argue that the steep tuition, the saturation of MBA holders in the job market, and evolving workplace demands post-COVID-19 may diminish the degree's value. Despite these concerns, there are strategies to mitigate costs, such as selecting programs from our most affordable ranking list — which start at tuition costs of just $3,855 — or seeking funding opportunities.
Financially, the benefits of an MBA extend beyond salary increments. Specializations in areas like Healthcare Administration or Marketing can provide targeted expertise, making graduates more competitive in specific sectors. The flexibility of online programs allows working adults to maintain their jobs, ensuring continuous income and career progression while studying. Additionally, the skills acquired in an MBA program are highly valued by employers and can enhance long-term career prospects.
Ultimately, the decision to pursue an MBA depends on individual financial circumstances and career goals. For those aiming for higher management roles, the financial investment in an online MBA can be justified by the potential for increased earnings and professional growth, maintaining its popularity as the top graduate degree program.

After extensive research, I chose the online LSUS MBA program because of the reputation and value. It also didn't hurt the "main campus" of LSU had really started embracing this program, giving it a boost in reputation. I had exceptional experiences in most classes. I'm thankful to see they got rid of ProctorU after... Read More

Columbia Southern University offers a wide range of degree options. I completed two Masters degrees during my time there. The cost per credit hour is very affordable compared to other online and in person colleges. The online school is emersive and dynamic. The professionalism and integrity in my opinion competes with other colleges and may well surpass some. Almost every professor I had held either a PHD or had 20 plus years experience in their field of study. A unique feature of Columbia Southern... Read More

I chose this program because of the overall cost and time to complete it did not disappoint, while several co worker were paying 50K+ for the same quality of instruction, I was able to complete for a fraction and able to be on the market in a short year.

I’m very proud to be an LSUS alumni! I had the most amazing experience where I met so many amazing individuals who I built a tribe with during my time in my program. I had support from the school to make sure that I was successful which is not something I experienced at my undergrad university. I wish my entire college experience was with LSUS. The professors are also amazing, some are tough but this is not a program to take lightly. Earning my MBA and several certifications here changed my life... Read More

I recently finished my WGU MBA. I've read some mentor horror stories but that was not my experience. I did my entire MBA in a single term. That is a lot of work but a motivated person can do it. I work full 50-60 hours per week and completed it, The work is not easy but the work is manageable. I am fortunate because I have a lot of experience in business and have a CPA. Therefore, the accounting courses which can be troublesome for some were easy for me. All of the objective tests were material I... Read More

I went to three other universities prior to WGU. I left them because the busy work and dragging out classes for 4-6 months at a time wasn't how I liked to learn. I found WGU and completed my first Bachelor's at my own pace, which I loved. I had a great mentor who helped me accelerate my degree plan and was super supportive. I went on to finish a Master's with them and am now entering another Bachelor's in a completely different field because they're one of only two universities who don't want to... Read More
I did notice in our school Facebook groups that some people complain about their mentors, but you can change your mentor at any time, so I don't get the complaining. Don't like them? Not responding? Super annoying? Tell the school and get a new one, easy. I don't have any real complaints with WGU, it's miles better than any other school I've attended (two state schools, one Ivy league). I highly recommend this university!
