I enrolled in a master鈥檚 program at Capella University after being told during enrollment advising that the program would support my goal of obtaining Psychological Associate (LPA) licensure in North Carolina.

I was advised in writing by an enrollment counselor that I could complete the program and pursue licensure without needing additional specialization. Based on this information, I enrolled and completed the program.

After raising concerns with the institution regarding the licensure discrepancy, I was offered approximately $200 in tuition reimbursement, despite having completed extensive coursework over multiple semesters. This offer did not reflect the cost of tuition, time invested, or the professional expectations communicated during enrollment.

Additionally, program requirements such as internship and residency placements created significant barriers to completing clinical experience in a way that aligned with licensure expectations, despite the program ultimately not leading to LPA eligibility in my state. This added time, financial strain, and uncertainty during my academic progression.

I have documentation of the enrollment communications and have since filed a Borrower Defense application with the U.S. Department of Education, as well as an accreditation complaint.

Licensure guidance during enrollment did not align with actual state requirements

Attending Capella University was a costly mistake, and I strongly urge anyone considering it to think twice.

After three years of work, time, and money, I was administratively withdrawn with ONE course left before graduating. I submitted my final paper on the last day of the term, only to be told afterward that it was 鈥渢oo late鈥� and I 鈥渟hould be able鈥� to retake the course a few months later. That decision alone set me back significantly.

It gets worse! I waited three months for an appeal decision,... Read More only for it to be denied with a vague, one-line explanation: 鈥渘on-satisfactory grade.鈥� No real justification. No accountability. This, despite having a transcript filled with A鈥檚 and B鈥檚 outside of that final course.

This experience exposed a complete lack of transparency, consistency, and student support. When you鈥檙e this close to the finish line, you expect clear communication and fair treatment鈥攏ot policies that feel arbitrary and decisions that have no meaningful explanation.

If you value your time, money, and sanity, do not take this risk lightly. There are far better institutions that will actually support you through completion instead of leaving you stranded at the very end!

Horrible experience! They gave me an F on a paper because I sighted more than 3 sources. Those extra citations were required, due to being a vital part of the information I was elaborating on. I had a BCBA I worked with review my paper and she was astonished that they gave me absolutely no points. I ended up leaving and going to law school and I will never regret that transition. They do not have enough professors to grade the amount of papers they get in. They professors... Read More are overwhelmed which is leading to students being tossed out like trash. Super disappointed since this is an important profession.

Capella was a really amazing School, in the end I chose a different path, and an currently pursuing another degree after waiting almost a year looking for a job in my field of choice. The worst experience I have ever had. My first class was kicked out of a class because I didn't set target due dates. Was never mentioned nor did it say in my class instructions that this was mandatory to stay in the class. My first advisor was awful and not helpful so I requested a new one. Got through all my classes until my doctoral project classes started, including wrote a whole paper about my proposed project that was noted by the professor for that class as being a great project idea. My third attempt was accepted but because it was my final chance to submit they told me I had to start the class over again. Worked through the class. Got to my final assignment, had no idea that the sessions were changed from 12 weeks to 10 weeks and missed my final submission date and was administratively removed from the program. I wrote a very detailed appeal letter, and was permanently removed from the program. I would never recommend this school to anyone ever!!! Now I am stuck with tuition bills that are unable to be reimbursed by my employer because I couldn't finish the class. If you like spending a large amount of money to teach yourself, be stressed out constantly about billing cycles vs education session dates, or are a busy working person looking for a program that is friendly to full time working adults with families, this is not the school for you!!!! My last advisor Karrie and Dr. Amy Daniel were the only reasonable ones I encountered at this school.

This school is no good! Please Capella states that professors will grade and return work within 2 business days most professors did follow this when it came down to my last 2 classes, I took both at the same time, I completed my capstone project and still had not received feedback and grades for my assignments in the other course. The school did not fulfill their obligation, I became financially responsible for something I shouldn't have been and now completely screwed out of my bachelor's degree that I spent a year and a half on.

Most professors give no guideline on their requirements, forget APA style and citations because every professor states differently and you have to change the format in each class or your dinged. You are doing a lot of assignments blindly. There's been some professors that have literally told me that I needed to include information that I had to highlight and show them I had already included. A lot of these professors don't even read through your assignments.

Please don't let this university ruin your whole educational goals the way they have mine.
