I had some excellent professors here and about an equal amount of how on earth are they still employed horror stories of professors. Be sure to check RateMyTeacher before enrolling in ANY class. My worst experience with a professor was definitely the one who bragged about how many students fail her class. Another professor gave all the girls automatic A's, it was super creepy. I had another professor who was 30min-2hr late to a 4 hour lab block every week and we weren't allowed to leave. The environment... Read More on campus was alright, I lived on campus 2 years and off 2 years. Parking is an absolute nightmare if your classes start around noon. Overall I had a negative experience here, I am using my degree but I can't really say I was well prepared for the clinical lab work I do now. This school is just another money grab, they never had my best interests in mind even when I sought help from counselors, the on campus nurses, and so on. Oh and the worst of it was I saw my counselor before EVERY semester to ensure I was on track to graduate and my last semester she realized I was missing a credit. I had to pay for a whole extra semester and set my life back 6 months and a bunch of money to take one single class for a dumb credit I could have done in any of my semesters prior. Honestly the lows were so low it's hard to think of a positive memory I had here.

George Mason University is a fantastic campus with strong academics and social opportunities. The campus is very large and clean, and full of different study spots and food halls. Additionally, there are two different gyms with excellent equipment and sometimes opportunities to take workout classes. The dorms are alright, but mostly a little dated. Read More studying in Fenwick library and found that it was always respectfully quiet on certain floor levels and more social (but at a decent volume) on other levels. Classes are an easy walk from the dorms depending on where you live, and the academic buildings are newer and very nice. Classes are comfortable and the professors are generally very friendly. Greek life, while not as huge as other schools, is still lively and a great networking opportunity. The campus population is also very diverse, which I loved; there are several clubs as well to further connect to specific ethnic communities. The food at GMU is somewhat lacking, especially in the dining halls (Ike’s and Southside) but the Globe is a game changer and worth the trek! Over all, I really enjoyed my time and GMU and living on campus rather than commuting. Parking is a nightmare and expensive to park in an actual parking lot, but if you get up early enough you’ll find street parking. I’d recommend going to GMU for the experience, the solid academics, and easy access to visit Washington, DC!

I attended George Mason University and had a generally positive academic experience, especially when it came to classes and professors. Many of my professors were knowledgeable, approachable, and had real-world experience, which made lectures more engaging and relevant. On paper, a lot of great things, and most of them are true. Fantastic location, great opportunities (I had an internship in japan as an English major), decent food selection, and a massive variety of extracurriculars and minors to go down. You can supplement pretty much any major you want with enough minors, and the population is large enough that it's very unlikely that a class doesn't reach the minimum applicant amount. It's very stuck in its own mind, and only getting worse. The worst part is that it's just as much the professors as it is the other students, maybe even more so. Just be aware of what you're getting into, and know that, unfortunately, it doesn't get better once you get here. If you don't vibe with it after the first year, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

I feel scammed by this GMU. I applied to GMU with one day to spare for the deadline to register. They took more than 48 business hours to process my application causing me a late fee. This is the second time in a row that they do this. I strongly feel like they deliberately do this to take advantage of new students. GMU also creates unnecessary holes to jump through in the registration process in order to increase the chances of a late registration. I have applied to close to 20 different universities... Read More in my lifetime, this university has been the least welcoming, least accommodating and least willing to remove discouraging late registration fees. They also make the process very difficult to audit my first class that I would miss otherwise because they were late with my registration. I spoke with someone from graduate registration that could not even resend me the registration email for my acceptance. The acceptance email is the only way I can register for classes which is very limiting.

The leadership within this program consistently and utterly fails students. It can be deemed a money-making scheme. Not only will leadership and several professors be insufficient in teaching content within courses- when you fail, it is your fault and none of their own. The consistency in grading, present content and information, and helpful feedback from professors vary greatly from semester to semester. This review is especially for future active duty, retired, and separated veterans living in the same area whom are deciding on a school and degree program that best fits their needs. Read More tri-state area—the variety of classes and ability to take cross discipline courses is what attracted me to this university and may potentially be beneficial for others with a military background. The Office of Military Services (OMS) is excellent and in the Volgenau School Engineering there are many faculty that truly love their field and teaching. Unfortunately while at GMU, I have learned matters of administration are just as important if not more important than academics. Having staff ignore, avoid answering/processing, not responding to, or provide false information to students submitting for financial aid, registration, department requirements, and housing happens to both my roommate and I consistently each semester. The result is both my roommate and I being on the verge of not having a place to live or threats of eviction as full time students despite being in good academic standing and dealing with staff that find this humorous. There is an endemic of indifference in many departments at GMU from my experience specifically targeted at anyone with any connection to the government. Somehow dislike for the current President has translated to dislike for students that were in the military or perceived to be pro-MAGA. As much as I would like to give this university an A+ for quality of education right now it is an F because the OMS can only do so much when a toxic culture is so widespread. I was an off-campus student, so I was not always there. However, there were many helpful staff here. I never had trouble getting help when I needed it. The professors were helpful and friendly. What I like about GMU was its proximity to Washington DC. The location of the college gave students an endless amount of possibilities to prosper and engage with their community. The diversity of GMU made everyone feel included. There were so many options on campus that provide multiple different opportunities... Read More for students to get involved and find something everyone can be interested in. The campus was busy and beautiful without being too spread out which could make it harder to get around fast. The performance art center also offered a great variety of shows, musicals, and plays. It was great that students can get a free or discounted tickets for some of the shows.
