I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Taxation from this school. During my undergraduate studies, I attended classes onsite, while my graduate courses were completed online. I attended Georgia State University as an adult learner, working full time during the day and attending classes in the late afternoon/evening. So I didn't have the average college student experience.
What I found was that the University, for a campus that is spread out in a downtown urban environment, had a close-knit, small campus feel. Professors were very friendly, welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable.
The quality of the classes was top notch. I gained a vast amount of knowledge in my years there.... Read More I was in my 30's and thought life experience had taught me enough to make college a breeze. I was wrong. I was challenged daily. I learned so much. Most importantly I learned to think critically and make educated decisions.
I would recommend Georgia State University to anyone looking for a high quality education. It is truly a great university.

I attended Georgia State University for 4 years and graduated in May 2021 with my bachelors in Biology. My school experience was amazing and I made a lot of friends and was able to connect with a diverse group of people. I believe that a lot of the professors were fair and willing to work with students. I frequently visited office hours and became known by my first name with some professors ( it is an extremely large campus).

My only complaint about my university experience is that GSU has an open... Read More campus. This can be very dangerous because there were lots of people harassing the students as they would walk to class or walk to their dorms. Overall, I think the security did the best they could do with the open campus situation. I also attended college during the time that COVID occurred, so we were sent home early during my spring semester of my junior year. I later returned that fall semester and became a RA.

I had a generally positive experience at my school. The professors were knowledgable and most classes were well organized. The coursework could be challenging sometimes but it just helped me become more knowledgable and build my critical thinking skills. I also appreciate the resources available to students, such as tutoring and academic advisement.. One thing that could be improved is communication but overall the school provided a good academic environment with plenty of opportunities for students.... Read More

Georgia State University has a major problem. That problem stems from the staff. Advisors and staff are so incredibly difficult to get ahold of, and so out of sync with each other that I almost had to attend school for a whole extra semester. I had an advisor who gave me false information about my credits, and come to find out she was fired shortly after. Once that fiasco was solved, graduation went off without a hitch.
Other than that, I enjoyed my time at GSU. The classes in the Film Department... Read More were so much fun and helpful for my academics and career/passion. I found myself excited to attend just about every class. The campus itself is pretty nice. Atlanta is a so-so city when it comes to safety, but I felt safe on campus, mostly. The surrounding areas... not so much.

Georgia State wasn't a bad experience but a lot of things could have been improved to make it a better experience. For one Georgia State is on an urban campus. That means students have to interact with potentially dangerous strangers, homeless people, and panhandlers on a daily basis. Atlanta may be small but it is a very busy and dynamic city. There was also several instances where homeless people trespassed into student buildings and there were no campus police around to help rectify the situation. Essentially, Georgia State needs to take it's campus safety a lot more seriously. Another major problem the school has is administration not doing their job properly and it being borderline impossible to contact an academic counselor. However the school does host many great programs including the Andrew Young School of Public Policy, which I graduated from. I would suggest students to study at this school if the school has a program that they are interested in but otherwise just based off safety concerns, I could not in good conscious suggest Georgia State.

I graduated with a B.Sc. in Psychology back in May 2020. I felt overall the academic part was very interesting. I enjoyed pretty much all the upper-level Psychology courses, and learned a great deal both on neurobilogical side and more on the qualitative side. I understand far more about myself and relationships, and read voraciously on various topics on a regular basis to this day.
