For the most part, I have really enjoyed my experience as an MSW student at Loyola. The downtown campus is nice and maintained, and my online instructors have been effective as well. However, I have had some professors that barely taught us at all in some classes that are highly important for social workers. My experience at Loyola was pretty positive. Academically, there was a good variety of courses, good professors (for the most part), and the university provided plenty of resources (ample selection of library resources, career center with career advisors to schedule meetings, multiple dining hall spot selections, etc.). Also, there were additional amenities like Loyola's own shuttle buses that would take students quickly between the downtown and lakeshore campuses. Additionally, there was a good... Read More amount of student organizations and clubs to get experience, socialize, and network. Moreover, the lakeshore campus is quite pretty and has a great view of Lake Michigan. The only thing that was a bit missing was the selection for career fairs for companies was a bit underwhelming, and the freshman dorms were a bit cramped.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Computer Science department at Loyola. Professors were engaged and highly available to help students with anything they needed, and the smaller class sizes made them feel more approachable and accessible. Motivated students had multiple options for assisting faculty with research to gain hands-on experience. Loyola lacks the college experience entirely. Students are stuck up and rude. Most are extreme leftist making it’s impossible to have any critical thoughts or discussions because they’re dismiss you as soon as you disagree. They have no good sports teams, resulting in little school spirit. Not many extracurricular making it hard to make friends. The school is in the city but you have to metro 45 minutes to be in the city. Name recognition goes nowhere beyond the failing city Loyola is located in.... They have no organization The master is a new program, so its experiment for them First, when you go into their page, it sells the program as Bilingual, but its entirely in Spanish Some professor expects you to write correctly in Spanish. Read More the homework on Wednesday even tho the online class is on Thursday. So if you have questions about the homework, you only way to ask it's through email, and some professors either take forever to reply or reply to a short answer that it's not helpful. Several students have requested a change in the homework to be after the online class, but since they do not listen to the students, they do what they want. Please do not make the same mistake I did there are several ways better online schools than Loyola

I was initially drawn to Loyola University Chicago because it has a great pitch-- private, rigorous, Jesuit education on a beautiful campus, in the heart of Chicago. However, the quality did not justify the cost. I became increasingly disillusioned with the university as I feel it does not act on the ideals it espouses. I truly felt like the advisors and administration put forth minimal effort and showed little investment in the success of its students. Bottom line is I walked away with 90k in student... Read More loans. I had issues with the BURSAR (financial aid) office every single year I attended. Two big issues included documents not on file, and incorrect loan request amount. The documents were delivered by hand months in advance, and someone in the BURSAR office walked through the loan process with me and my parent (I am a first generation student, and we needed help to make sure we were applying for everything correctly). Additionally, classes which were required components of my major were cancelled several times. I very nearly ended up having to graduate late (more money) to meet the requirements. Instead chose to sacrifice classes/subjects I was most interested in and take generic but credit satisfying courses. These administrative issues resulted in financial penalties for us. By the time I graduated, Loyola education felt more about making money for the school than preparing its students. In fairness, the professors are remarkable and of high caliber-- but the cost is simply not worth it. I know that I am not alone in these difficulties with this university. At first, I felt like perhaps I was just a case of one student falling through the cracks, but the more students and graduates I spoke with, the more we realized the aforementioned grievances are more of a commonality than not. I would encourage any prospective student to really look at every option and consider the cost. I am unhappy with my experience, and have all the debt on top of it.

My experience in the Spanish M.A. program here was absolutely disappointing and more than anything, frustrating and infuriating. The director of the Grad Program is a misogynistic and power hungry individual. The guidelines for the degree are clear but the course offerings are limited, and skewed by academic politics and bureaucracy. There are only 2 out of 6 professors teaching grad level classes that are great teachers and respectful humans. I had to report what was happening within my program... If you hope to get something out of your education (i.e. learn new things, challenge your thoughts, entice your academic passions), this program is NOT for you.
