St. Cloud honestly grew on me in a way I did not expect. At first it felt quiet and a little too slow, but the longer I stayed, the more I started to appreciate it.

I like how peaceful it is. There is something really calming about being here, especially with the Mississippi River and places like Munsinger Gardens. It is not chaotic or overwhelming, and that makes it easier to focus on school and just get my life together. As a student, that really matters to me.

The people here are generally kind... Read More and approachable. It is not hard to feel like you belong, and over time you start seeing familiar faces which makes it feel more like home.

I will say it is not the most exciting place, especially during winter. Things can feel slow and sometimes I wish there was more to do or more variety. But at the same time, that quietness has helped me grow, stay focused, and build discipline.

Overall, St. Cloud is not flashy, but it is peaceful, grounding, and actually a really good place for this stage of my life.

I spent three out of the four years of my college education at Saint Cloud State University. I transferred there after spending a semester at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and taking a semester off. My first year was completely online, but it was still a good experience, and I learned very valuable skills, specifically in video and audio editing, during that time. My time on campus was great. I had many fantastic professors in the Mass Comm department and thrived there, learning many skills... Read More I now use frequently in my full-time marketing job. I was also a part of the Sociology program and loved my classes in that department (that was my minor), and I was very involved in the choirs and choir board on campus. I overall feel a deep connection to the campus and would recommend it as an affordable place to receive a good college education.

I chose St. Cloud State University for numerous reasons. The first of which was that St. Cloud State was a public college with lower tuition rates. This was important to me because I had limited financial resources and my parents werent able to help me pay for school, so I was reliant on financial aid and student loans. The second of which was that St. Cloud State has a great financial aid package and did not require multiple separate scholarship applications for the schools general population (given... Read More there were special scholarships which required a separate application). The process was easy to complete and was applied directly to my bill at the beginning of the semester. Anything that was left over from financial aid or loans could be direct deposited in my bank account to help with books, fees, and other living costs. I lived on campus for the first year. The buildings were nice and updated, but got warm in the fall because there was no AC. They had live and learn communities that paired people based on similar interests, which was nice when being assigned a roommate. Thirdly, St. Cloud State had great reviews for their nursing program. When I toured there, the nursing students took me on special tour of their SIM labs and allowed me to sit in on a few classes. This helped me to become comfortable with the professors who taught there and the structure of the nursing program. They also assigned me an advisor to help me set up what my two years in the program would look like and helped me choose which classes to take which semester. The program was in depth and the clinical opportunities were numerous. My professors took time to get to know me, which ensured I received the right clinical experiences and placements. There were multiple opportunities to get involved, although I did not due to work obligations. I found that the professors and staff were incredibly helpful and I am glad I chose to pursue my nursing baccalaureate there.

If you plan to get a serious education rather than simply a diploma, SCSU is a solid choice. Most faculty are very knowledgeable and teach you the information that you will need to know in the future. The content is challenging, but you will learn so much. There are some faculty that go above and beyond and I would highly recommend taking their courses. Some of the buildings are beginning to show their age, however they still function fine. I also feel it prepared me well for graduate school as a physical therapist.

Positives of SCSU included the education degree program, which required a lot of field experience at various levels and locations. Campus life was great, I wished I had not lived off campus me senior year as it packed a lot of the community feel if my first three years. Nearly all my professors were amazing and accessible, they seemed passionate and knowledgeable about their field. Negatives include career services which I feel was non-existent. And at the time I was there a lot of the language programs... Read More seemed to be dying off which was unfortunate as those were my favorite instructors. I also feel there was hardly any financial aid except for student loans which I am now swamped with.

I truly enjoy being a part of the College Counseling and Student Development, Master's Program here at St. Cloud State University. Along with being a student, I am also a Graduate Assistant, helping to assist the women's track and field program. I enjoy the faculty here. They have been nothing less but helpful in my journey as a graduate student. I build close relationships with different department leaders who have giving me opportunities to gain experience when it comes to working in student affairs.... This college is what you make it to be. The business school has a pretty good local (MN) reputation and the finance program does place at some very very high level firms. The only thing that will hold you back is if you don't actively seek out the opportunities. This college won't just serve you up to a company the way that the U might. St. Cloud has a reputation for being a party school, but while I was there most of the older students went back to their parents' or their home cities over the weekends, so I, being from out of the general area of the school, ended up being the oldest person on campus most weekends- if not the only person on campus. The degree itself was a great experience, I was part of a small (6 person) degree program, but I made close bonds with the other students in my major (and closely associated majors in... Read More the arts) because of the tight knit community. If you're expecting huge class sizes with sprawling lecture halls, you won't find that in most degree programs at SCSU. Some of the liberal arts or general classes may be that size, but the majority of a students' classes will be around 10 students - which is smaller than the class size of my high school. Saying that, though, I was also in the University Honors Program and had even smaller class sizes for my generals. I was the teacher's assistant for some of the larger classes' generals, so that's how I know about the size, but for those big lecture hall classes, it's easy enough to find assistance in either a classmate or the myriad of professors teaching the general subjects.

Biology at St. Cloud State University is amazing. My advisor helped me create a 4 year plan from the start of what I needed to get into graduate school, from what classes to take to helping me set up an internship. My major allows internship as an optional upper level division credits per hour and they require you to also do research in addition to the internship. This helped me utilize the research and written communication skills I learned during my undergraduate work. Furthermore, this school... Read More offers many research opportunities both under the supervision of research professors as well as your own independent research. There is a student research colloqueium every year where we can present our research, and complete to move on to a national competition. This major not only challenged my intellect and research abilities, but also taught me presentation skills, how to network with alumni, staff, and community members, and writing scholarly research papers.

I mostly went to Saint Cloud State University (SCSU) due to its proximity to where I lived. It was not my dream school, however, it wasn't a bad school. They had events often, which were actually fun. The campus isn't too overwhelmingly big, so it wasn't too hard to get around. The faculty was either a hit or miss. I had professors that I absolutely loved having and where very supportive in helping me prepare for graduate school. I had other professors who didn't give their students the time of day.... Read More The campus sits right off the Mississippi River which is quite gorgeous. The winter months do get a bit chilly but they have buses and shuttles that run all the time so you can avoid a cold walk home. There is a beautiful lake nearby, Lake George, that is a common hang out spot to study. Otherwise the neighborhood is mostly college housing and I felt relatively safe. Tuition at SCSU is also fairly cheap! Overall, it was a pretty good experience and I would recommend it to others.

I thought this was a decent college. They have a great art program that is an affordable option in comparison to University of Minneapolis or Minneapolis Institute of Art. However, they do not offer a Master's program in art. Their printmaking, photomaking, and wood working areas are great. They also have a lot of interesting courses offered there. Nice computer lab too. The only thing that I found annoying about the art college is that it is in an old building and there isn't too much room around... There is a telescope at the science building and that is pretty cool because they open it up to the public on specific days of the year. I really like their astronomy classes and Native American history classes too. Huge gym with a rock climbing wall is nice. They offer good student discounts on buying new computers there. Great library too, good options for food at Atwood. Overall, I had a good experience at SCSU and I do recommend going there.

I chose this school as it was far enough away from home but still only an hour away. My parents didn't want my to go to a large university and get lost in the crowd. This school was still large and I feel like I was just another number. For a science degree I wish I would have just gone to the university. I didn dance at SCSU which was a great opportunity also I had a few other opportunities such as being a TA and being involved with a few clubs.
