The social work school is horrible. They can be extremely stuck up. Multiple times I have been belittled and treated poorly for asking questions about my field placement or for asking questions in regards to a grade that was inappropriately placed but eventually was fixed. I was put into a very inappropriate field placement and then blamed. My field instructor did not even have a social work degree and the college allowed her to count my hours wrong all while shaming ME for asking for help on the... Read More

Do Not- I repeat- Do Not attend this school if you want a MA in Social Work. The faculty is full of hypocrites. They are all self important for no good reason. The material and teaching methods are outdated and stale. They think that they need to present themselves as infallible, and the student must bow down to their authority. Reality check: you are a professor at the University of Tennessee, not Harvard. Everyone in my graduating class felt this way, and said "you've just got to get through it."... Read More

The staff there are top notch and encourage learning and critical thinking. The internships are developed thoughtfully and well supervised. The buildings were old in the social work buildings but they have done a lot of updates since I went through the program.

Ok. Not challenging. Not enough diversity either.

The faculty were educated in their areas of expertise, wealth of knowledge. The professors were down to earth and admirable at the same time. The internship process was challenging however with regard to finding a good fit and with the amount of hours required to work there. Self advocacy however can go a long way in this program. The campus is beautiful with a timely bus system.

The University of Tennessee Knoxville campus is truly a beautiful place for ground breaking learning. I've learned to be a better student, professional, and overall student when utilizing all that the campus has to offer. While I'm there just for my Masters, it has become home.

The University of Tennessee Knoxville College of Social Work was not what I expected. Most of the faculty were great, but the available field placements/internships were lacking. There was no sense of urgency or responsibility on behalf of the faculty to improve the available field placements/internships. Prior to applying, I attended several informational sessions where I and others asked about job placement rates post graduation as well as starting pay for recently graduated MSSW's. We were told... I have recently finished my foundation year in the University of Tennessee's distance education program in Social Work. It has been a challenge as an older adult but one that I find is challenging in all the right ways. I am unable to move out of Memphis at this point so this program fit my needs perfectly. I am receiving a top-rate education and feel like I am learning so much about the field of social work, specifically the area of gerontology.

I am currently enrolled to begin the Social Work Master's program in the Fall Semester of 2013. I rated these attributes from one of the Social Work classes I took as a Non-degree seeking graduate student. From the class that I took,I was very impressed with the professor, Dr. F, and was pleased with her method of testing, grading, and work assignments. As of now, I do not have any cons.
