I attended University of Kansas from 2006-2008, in May 2008 I earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management. This was a very highly respected program because of the fact it is accredited by CAHIMA. The course work was in a classroom setting which I felt was the best way to learn because you are learning from your instructor and as well as your peers. Read More tuition rate is lower than most state universities I have viewed. For example, I am from South Dakota and the University of Kansas' in state tuition is lower then that of a state university in SD.
I have made lifelong friends while I attended KU, I feel if anyone is looking for a quality and meaningful education they should choose KU. Go Jayhawks!

KU is an amazing school that provides excellent opportunities for all paths. I started off at KU in the medical field, but turned to the arts and letters because the electives they made us take. The professors are so passionate about their studies and helped aid me in the right direction even though they weren't my advisor. I wanted to attend a study abroad program that KU didn't host and they allowed me to get credit through the university, rather than go through the other university hosting the... Read More program. Not only is the academic atmosphere inviting, close-knit, diverse, and helpful, but the student life is second to none. Campus is beautiful year round and midwestern people are the absolute nicest. 

I graduated with my Bachelor's in Environmental Studies and a minor in Spanish as a transfer student. One thing that I will say about my experience is that the campus environment felt unwelcoming as a transfer student. Professors and students mostly assume you started as a freshman, so you have to learn to stand up for yourself and advocate for your status as a minority there. Most students have a lot of pride in the traditions at KU, and it's great for those interested in the sorority/fraternity... Read More life. I never lived on campus but I've heard that the scholarship halls are the way to go if you can get in. The public transportation on campus is excellent, but still plan on getting a good workout on a daily basis walking to different classes. I highly recommend the Honors Program, the Multicultural Scholars Program, the McNair Scholars Program, and studying abroad. There's a lot of options for study abroad, but if you can't find something to fit what you're looking for, the OSA is great about working with you to design your own program. Know going into things that KU is a research institution, which means they have lots of funding for students to do research. The Center for Undergraduate Research is a good resource for getting started on that path, finding scholarships and professors to work with. The KU Basketball team also has a huge influence on the culture come March, which can be good or bad depending on how they do. No matter what, there are always events going on, so you will have no problem finding ways to keep busy! I highly recommend KU if you plan on staying in Kansas long-term for your career, as it will open up a lot of local networks. Otherwise, just be intentional about how you pursue some of your undergraduate experiences to ensure that you set yourself up for careers elsewhere.

The PharmD program at KU is a challenging, but rewarding experience overall. My class was the first with the re-arranged curriculum, so we were the guinea pigs for many new classes and extra-curricular requirements. The first year was very heavy in basic sciences, but the second year was by far the hardest. Third year has a very light Fall semester followed by a Spring semester that is full of classes that require preparation beforehand. There is an emphasis on interprofessional collaboration so... Read More several activities are planned throughout the curriculum with nursing/medical/physical therapy/social work students. There are also many encounters with standardized patients--actors that portray a patient in a given scenario so that students are able to practice the skills taught in regards to communication, counseling, and basic physical examination. Overall, I felt the school did a great job teaching us what we needed to prepare for our fourth year of clinical rotations.

The University of Kansas is located in a little town about forty-five minutes from Kansas City. Lawrence has a great college life atmosphere while still being a great city to adventure in. The University has such a diverse population, it offers a little bit of everything. You can meet people from all kinds of background. The Analytics and Applied Statistics program at the University of Kansas Medical Center is extremely convenient. All of the classes are online, making it easy to continue to work while attending school. Tuition is more affordable than most online M.S. Statistics programs in the US; the total cost of tuition for the degree is around $21,000. So far the professors seem very good, although I am only 1 month into my first semester.
