UMass Lowell gave me an experience in a suburban area that I got to know really well with time. The campus had plenty of clubs, events, and activities so there was always something to do. There was also a huge variety of majors to choose from which was great when I decided I needed to switch majors in undergrad. I had plenty of options to consider and choose from without having to transfer. I would say that the academic quality is about average. Professors were pretty much hit or miss and you could... Read More tell which ones were mostly there for research rather than teaching, but I had a couple of professors and mentors that were absolutely amazing. The school was also great at connecting you with hands-on work experience through campus jobs and their co-op program. I definitely feel like I got a lot of experience working in the University Relations office while taking part in my studies.

I attended UMass Lowell from roughly 2019 to 2022 with my first 3 college semesters being at Merrimack College. UML was definitely a nice change from Merrimack as it felt more engaging with a lot of my classes and it seemed as though my accounting and finance teachers were giving us more real world experience compared to just teaching material from our books. Graduating from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell with a Biotechnology degree was a really solid experience overall. The program does a good job balancing the core courses like biology, chemistry, math and lab skills. A lot of the coursework felt relevant to real-world industry expectations, and I appreciated that the curriculum pushed you to think critically and how to communicate scientific ideas clearly.

My last year was a mix of hybrid and in-person classes due to the start of the pandemic,... Read More and it was an interesting experience that I had never encountered before. The hybrid setup gave me flexibility, especially for lectures and studying, while the in-person labs and hands-on courses still made it feel like a true science program. The way the school handled the pandemic, I feel, actually helped me stay organized and independent while still getting the face-to-face support that I needed.

What stood out most about UMass Lowell was how much it prepared me to step into the next stage, which in my case was stepping into the workforce. The faculty and resources were strong, and there were plenty of opportunities to build experience through labs, projects, and networking.

I had a really great experience during my time at Umass Lowell even though my first year was completely remote because of the pandemic. As a first-generation student, UML provided me with the financial support and resources (i.e available professors, mentors, study spaces, academic support clubs) that I need to exceed in my classes. Read More of my professors wanted to their students succeed. I never had bad experience with any professors, except 1. In other aspects, unrelated to the academics, UML is a diverse school and as a carribean/hispanic individual, I was able to feel like I fit in while also meeting and engaging with people from other backgrounds. I was fortunate enough to be able to dorm all throughout college. Some dorms are better and more modern than others, so in reality dorm selection should be based on each person's personal preference and the type of things they are willing to sacrifice (i.e suite style with personal bathroom or communal bathrooms). I found the social life to be a 7/10 (fall semester) or 8/10 (spring semester). Something to keep in mind is that UML is commuter school, so students often go home on the weekends and campus can be dead. UML also has several academic clubs, social clubs, and club sports. The more I immersed myself in campus life activities, the more I enjoyed Umass Lowell.

Massachusetts offers both and online and on campus degrees in various fields. Their online CIT program is truly a diamond in the rough as it provides an affordable and technically challenging degree program for those that are looking for a career in IT, and specifically software development. The courses are taught by some of if the keot dedicated professors I have ever encountered in academics. Weekly chats, workshops and tutoring truly make for a seamless online experience. If you prefer in person... Read More courses, those are also an option. But the online route makes it easy for anyone to pursue this program from anywhere in the country. There are numerous online tech degrees out there but none come close to this when it comes to price and flexibility.
