The UNF campus feels like home. The grounds are always maintained with plenty of greenery and you will even find little animal friends along your class commute. The campus itself is a wildlife sanctuary! You will run into curious turtles, baby alligators, snakes and plenty of birds. Other than the scenery, they have an amazing academic staff. The education I got at the University of North Florida was great. As an undergraduate student in the College of Education, I was at first annoyed that I couldn't minor in anything, but I learned it was due to the fact they truly wanted you to focus fully on the educational classes and that they'd also take a good amount of time. Professors made sure you understood what you were learning in a way that you'd be able to transfer what you learned onto your future students. Honestly UNF wasn't my first... UNF has continually let me down. The school seemed promising after the tour and talking to some advisors but after 3 years at the school 2 of which were in person and one online I can confidently say this school is woefully mismanaged. I have routinely run into professors who are bitter spiteful and uninterested in their jobs. The about of times I have had to micromanage my professors into doing the basic aspects of their jobs is absurd, whether it be posing assignments and documentation on time,... Read More responding to questions grading assignments UNF does not ensure their professors have the proper skills and motivations to teach in the modern era. Cheating is rampant, especially in the nursing program, and little is done about it. The school has been in "protect our reputation" mode for a number of years and it's finally showing. The advisors are just as bad as the professors and their bad advice directly caused me to lose a scholarship. The campus is beautiful but the student government seldom hosts events that actually excite the student base, and when they do they generally fumble the bag. Like having a concert for the entire school and only having a handful of portapoties leading too massive lines. The social scene on campus is ok but overall its nothing compared to other schools. I would definitely choose a different university knowing what I do now.

I never had a bad teacher. Every time I made an appointment with, and met with my advisers, I wasn't met with problems. The advisers are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The campus is great, everything you need is there. I was able to meet with counselors, not even for problems with school, but just regular real-life stuff. Read More work, are laid out easily for student access. They have a career service center as well. This offers students help with resumes, interviews, and even offers clothing to those that can not afford it.

During my time at the University of North Florida (UNF), I did my best to get involved with as many opportunities as I thought would enhance my skills and understanding in the best possible way. The University provided many avenues and opportunities to my relevant degree of study. Within my degree program I was part of the biology club were we served as an academically-based and service-oriented club, our goal was to give back to the local community and provide our members with volunteer, social, and educational activities throughout the fall and spring semesters. UNF is home to many clubs and organizations which involves their students and I am extremely grateful to have been part of such an institution.

Please, don't let this school fool you. I came here with a near perfect college GPA as a transfer with high ambitions and I am leaving depressed, and now, thanks to their policy, under academic probation. I feel cheated and dirty. This school promises a small community and great resources; again, don't let them fool you. All that translates to is a school understaffed (the faculty they do possess is overworked and unbearable), disorganized (good luck applying for financial assistance), and drained... Read More because of the lack of clarity/cohesion. Everything from their parking to their professors is, again, mismanaged and disorderly. Sadly, you pay the price for this. Unless you have your parents money to blow, unemployed and vapid, save yourself. This school was designed for the type of student who has nowhere else to actually be beside on campus (believe me, it will take day and night to pull through this experience) this school is not for you.

Though it is taking strides toward becoming a more campus friendly school, the University of North Florida functions predominantly as a commuter school for students in North East Florida. UNF does boast a mid-tier basketball team, but its success has been up and down over the past few years. Second, UNF isn't located in a "college town." Rather, UNF is kind of like an island of academic buildings and (beautiful) nature preservation in the middle of suburban Jacksonville. It's location is kind of cool in that you're fifteen minutes from Jax beach and fifteen minutes from downtown Jacksonville. If you're going to get a valuable education at UNF, it's incumbent upon you to make your experience valuable. This means developing relationships with your professors - all of whom I found to be brilliant and kind in the English and Philosophy departments. This also means getting involved on campus. There are a million clubs on campus. Getting involved with one that you care about can ultimately make or break your collegiate experience. This isn't necessarily unique to UNF - I think all colleges require a degree of enthusiasm and drive in order to make them meaningful and worthwhile. The flipside of UNF's relative youth and obscurity is that it isn't hard to get involved and make a mark. It's very easy to make connections on campus and in the community precisely because UNF's community is young and impressionable.

The University of North Florida is wonderful learning institution that is surrounded by beautiful nature trails in Northeast Florida. Having spent several years at the University, I have established meaningful relationships with faculty and have developed leadership skills that will benefit me throughout my entire career.
