During my undergraduate, I did learn essential tools for a career field in dietetics, and there were a few professors who were open-minded and kind. However, I did note there was a continuous turnover of professors yearly when I was there for 4 years. Overall, the courses were quite rigorous, and I did very well but did not feel welcome within the dietetic department because of my ethnicity. For further students, I highly suggest, fully understanding the career that you will see yourself in for the next 10 years, and if you can be honest with yourself, then to switch to a different major without fear and concern of what others may think of you.

I had a wonderful time in my degree program at the University of Southern Mississippi. I got my BFA in Theatre Performance. It was a rigorous program with great instructors who cared deeply for the students' growth. The faculty members who taught me is still intact, and are still working to produce strong actors. The students have a good deal of opportunities to act in main stage productions. I was able to act in seven main stage productions with full lighting, sound, and costumes. There were also... Read More opportunities through out the school year to perform in student produced shows. There was a great studio space that had lighting and sound with rehearsal props that students could use to produce pre-existing plays they wanted to produce as well shows they had written. Another positive is that USM has extremely talented undergraduate actors. One student I was in school with got an acting internship at Milwaukee Rep and works constantly in Chicago, another graduated from the Yale School of Drama with his MFA in Acting, another won the Kennedy Center acting competition and works regularly as a professional actor in DC, and I have been working professionally in DC, and have been accepted into Columbia University for my MFA in Acting. There are more stories from other departments, these are only stories from some of the actors I was in school with. The only thing I can think of that could have been improved is the exposure to current writers of color. There was very little exposure to these writers, and I think it would help actors of color to find their voices in the theatre. As a whole, my alma mater is a great program and establishes a very strong base of training for its students. It is a diamond in the rough, and I appreciate the training I received there.

This is the worse university I have ever attended. If you are a veteran looking for a va-friendly school, DO NOT ATTEND HERE! They will not let you enroll in next semester classes until all of your GI bill money has come in and you have paid your entire semester in full! All us veterans know that our stipend doesn't come in full one time, it comes month after month. This means if you want to attend this university you have to have money up front, otherwise classes fill up before you get your GI Bill... Read More money. When I call the business service office to explain, they tell me "that's tough! sorry"

My time at The University of Southern Mississippi was extremely boring. I did meet a lot of nice people there and a few of my professors were helpful. The quality of education I received was not good for the price I was paying. I found my self buying and reading books every summer for subjects/ topics my finance classes did not go over. I found the school did not really prepare students for the qualities employers were looking for from recent college graduates. And the companies that came to recruit... Read More on the campus was subpar. My advice for future potential college students is to look at the cost of the college, look at the environment around the college because you are going to be there for the next four to five years, and pay attention to what companies recruit on the campus.
