My experience with the dorms and my FIG was terrible. Things got better once I moved off campus. I got bounced around between advisors almost every semester and didn't good advice on what to take and what to do to prepare my career after graduation. The social accepts of campus were great, and once I found some decent professors for guidance, it was better. The student health office was terrible, pray you never get sick or have the financial ability to go off campus. I would do it all again, but... VETERANS BEWARE!! THIS SCHOOL DOES NOT CARE IF YOUVE SERVED AND WILL NOT HELP YOU!

I am a veteran and decided to use my GI Bill during the COVID lock down to pursue an education in engineering at UW. I spoke with multiple faculty members before classes started letting them know that this was my first stint at an actual university. I was excited but also ignorant and I made sure to let them know so I didn't let anything slip through the cracks. I'd lived in Wyoming for the past 3+ years as a govt contractor... Read More and had proof through taxes and lease agreements. They charged me as a non-resident and never informed me. I worked extremely hard and passed all of my classes! Over the years I've jumped through hopes with the VA and their billing department to no avail. Nobody will help me and now I'm almost $7000 in debt for schooling (and thats for only 1 semester!!!) I had already paid for with my time in service and my own money while in the service. This school could care less about it's veterans or the free money they get for us choosing their school. I'd give 0 stars if I could.

Teacher education is a funny thing in and of itself. What UW prepared me for was how to deal with bureaucracy. Some of the instructors were good (mostly the Casper College partner instructors), and some were terrible, mean, and nasty. When I would ask specific questions of some personnel I was met with hostility as if I was asking for launch codes to the nuclear arsenal. So much for higher thinking! I didn't know it at the time, but what I was being groomed for was how to follow rules (as stupid... Read More as they may be) because that is largely what public education is. Follow orders and don't ask too many questions. I am not sure how good the other teacher prep programs are, but as far as the day to day teaching, building relationships, professional growth, etc., I feel this school is lacking. With the state of public education these days, however, I don't know if anyone can really prep a newbie for the sometimes - hellish world that awaits them as a public school teacher. The fact is - without this B.S. degree I would not have been able to become a certified teacher and get hired. Mostly that is what I gained from this school. I did the work, paid the financial price, and jumped through the hoops in order to get the degree. I was prepared for my professional career very minimally.

The University of Wyoming has a phenomenal College of Business. The professors provide classroom instruction that builds to your senior year. The tools and resources necessary to successfully graduate are provided to each student. Classroom sizes are small and the professors are readily available for student interactions. The concepts taught have real-world application and to prepare a student for the current job market. What I learned at the University of Wyoming has stayed with me today and has... Read More helped me as I've grown in my career. My experience at UW and my interactions with professors has been invaluable.

The University of Wyoming offered me and many other students amazing extra curricular experiences which shaped who I am today. The community volunteering, the intramurals, the access to great facilities, and the friends I made were great. When considering the educational experience and the value of a UW education, I think it was highly inadequate when considering employment outside the states. Even though the school propagated a very inclusive pride fullness about itself, when it came down to preparation... Read More for the real-world, you know, when you have to get a job to pay off loans, rent, and life's other expenses, the ROI wasn't worth it. I would have rather paid a bit more and attended a more well known, non-region specific school, which would have propelled me into an awesome career start. Not once was I encouraged to attend a job fair or see the career counselors (not sure if they even have these), and when I went on my own accord, I was shocked to see Army recruiters and seasonal salmon packer employers as the featured booths. There is a reason those employers are the primary representation at the job fair, because that's the quality of education that employers are seeing from UW grads. Not to say enlisting in the army is negative, but that my education is preparing me take seasonal pack salmon? If the accolades of earning a degree from UW were so great, like claimed, companies like GE, Amazon, Ford, Google, large financial institutions, and start-ups, would be knocking down the door for UW grads...but they aren't... Looking back, UW is seen on my resume as a check mark, just for the fact I received a degree. The reason I got my job wasn't because I went to UW, it was the fact I realized the lack of educational value UW prepared me with, that I powered through outside of the classroom to land the job I did. Looking back, I wish I had this information to further make my college decision. I know I would have made a different choice, one that respected me as the future of the new ideas and innovation, not just someone prepared to mindlessly pack salmon.

Currently I am enrolled in the Masters of Social Work Program at the University of Wyoming. I have already completed a bachelors degree in Organizational Leadership, also at the University of Wyoming. I live in a small rural town over 100 miles from the University. Moving closer was not an option for me and my growing family. The University has had every option of flexibility for me to complete my education while staying in my community. As a result, I was able to work full time and able to network... Read More my way into significant employment positions. I am thankful for this opportunity because in my smaller community I have been able to prove my work ethic and my determination. I would imagine this is to be so much more difficult if I were to move away for school and then to move back to find work. The University has also been proven to be true the old small Wyoming traditions. Because of the smaller class sizes in comparison to other Universities, the instructors are able, and CARE, to provide undivided attention. For example, I was struggling with an online class. I cant say that I wasn't trying. I eventually reached a breaking point and had to contact the instructor for a tutor. Instead, my instructor and I spent every Saturday morning on the phone and over the computer working on our assignments. I was extremely grateful for this. Something that I am most excited for starting this graduate program is that I would be working within a population that is significantly without common mental health resources. Statistics prove that rural areas such as Wyoming are lacking the necessary resources to address mental health concerns. Because of this, people who suffer with a mental health issue usually see their family practitioners who are not adequately educated to treat mental health issues. This graduate program teaches a "advanced generalist approach" which provides the student with a large spectrum of social work knowledge. THis education will help me make a difference in not just our rural community but in various corners of life within the community. I am proud to be a graduate of the University of Wyoming, I would recommended the quality education to anyone with such great pride.
