Going to Austin Peay's Nursing program was a big step! The program is difficult to get in, but so worth it. The education and requirements of the students are rigorous, but they ultimately prepare you for a challenging job field. Nursing is not an easy profession, and the instructors prepare students with just enough "tough love." First, I was attempting to achieve my degree online due to being in the military and moving around a lot. The computer science program is well designed for the road map of critical courses to prepare a student for a post collegiate career. After 4.5 years and five classes from graduation I withdrew to enroll in a different university knowing that a minimum of 10 more classes would be required. What drove me to that decision? Austin Peay has some of the worst compute science professors that do not... Read More acknowledge the existence of on-line students. The senior level courses were nothing more than repositories for the syllabus, assignments and course materials. Absolutely no instruction or engagement with the professor. My academic advisor was my professor and wouldn't respond to emails. Why should I pay thousands of dollars for an education that Google and various IT websites are the teachers. There are a few professors that are 'adjunct' faculty whom I hold the deepest amount of respect for. They always went the extra mile to ensure I understood the material, concepts and how the answer was achieved. Kudos to those who are the truest of educators. I have a strong sense of loyalty most notably due to my military career but I could no longer accept the status quo for the online program at Austin Peay. A difficult decision to say the least. Do yourself a favor and find another school for Computer Science. There are a bevy of choices where the university has a robust system in place that supports the 'brick and mortar' students as well as on line students.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to achieve my Masters degree from Austin Peay State University. The ability to take my courses online while working full-time in a town over four hours away from campus is wonderful, and it allows me to start my career whilst achieving my educational goals. The program itself is proving very useful in the business world. I have already learned valuable things about the communication industry, and I have been exposed to very different teaching styles. Course... Read More material and topics always seem relevant to the communication industry and are current in nature. The only downside of this graduate program is that there are so many different professors--it is hard to establish a relationship with them beyond the scope of their particular course. They are all very qualified and intelligent, but it is hard to stay in communication with them after your particular course ends, making academic mentorship difficult.

Like any graduate program, it has its share of work and effort that is required out from every student. What I like the most about this particular program is that the faculty understand the workload that is place upon us, and they their part to help ease the load from time to time. Knowing that our professors understand our individual situations and do their best to make our matriculation successful is a highlight of my own journey as a graduate student. My professors show genuine concern for each of us and make themselves available to us for help.
