How We Rank "Most Affordable" Schools

%%YEAR%% Most Affordable 91³ÉÈË %%LEVEL_NAME%% in %%PROGRAM_NAME%% Badge

The 91³ÉÈË research team manually collects and verifies tuition data for every school on our lists, ensuring you see accurate, up-to-date costs whether you're pursuing an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program. To qualify, schools must offer fully online degrees, hold institutional accreditation, and have verifiable enrollment data through the National Center for Education Statistics. While some of our rankings include partner schools, every school is evaluated using the exact same criteria.

We prioritize schools that offer a consistent tuition rate across programs at the same degree level, so you're not caught off guard by unexpected price differences between majors, and for graduate programs we go a step further by individually calculating program costs since credit requirements and fees vary widely.

91³ÉÈË Degree:

What Sets This Program Apart:

  • This master's program requires students to complete a traditional graduate business foundation first, before applying those concepts through four healthcare-specific courses in financial management, legal foundations, policy analysis, and advanced healthcare management.
  • Columbia Southern offers 11 annual start dates, accepts up to 24 transfer credits toward the 36-credit degree, and delivers coursework entirely online with 24/7 access.

Student Review Summary: Reviews of Columbia Southern University are largely favorable, driven by high ratings and frequent recommendations. Students repeatedly praise the flexible online format, especially for balancing full-time work, military service, parenting, and travel. Many also value affordable tuition, included books, responsive advisors, quick faculty access, and generous transfer-credit evaluations. A notable theme is that coursework is often writing-heavy, research-based, and more demanding than expected, which some say improved job prospects and promotions. Criticism centers on slow financial aid refunds, inconsistent advising, uneven instructor quality, generic feedback, proctoring frustrations, and longstanding concern that national accreditation limited credit transfer, graduate-school options, or employer recognition.

91³ÉÈË Degree:

What Sets This Program Apart:

  • This Healthcare Management MBA online is structured as an MBA first and a healthcare management specialization second, which gives you broader business preparation than many stand-alone healthcare administration master’s programs.
  • It's a 30-credit curriculum that can be completed in as few as 12 months.
  • If you perform well academically, you may pursue a dual concentration across the MBA portfolio. That kind of cross-specialization option is not common in this segment and can be especially valuable if you want healthcare expertise paired with another business skill area.

Student Review Summary: Reviews of Fitchburg State University are largely favorable, with recurring praise for knowledgeable, supportive professors, small classes, and strong value for the cost. Many reviewers say the compact campus makes it easy to build relationships, get involved in clubs, and navigate daily life, while updated facilities add to the experience. Several note that coursework is practical, challenging, and career-oriented, helping with writing, professional skills, licensure preparation, or advancement on the job. Criticisms center on inconsistent advising, poor cross-office communication, limited upper-level course variety, some scheduling frustrations, and concerns about the surrounding area, campus safety, and uneven support across departments.

While annual tuition is a starting point, program length can significantly affect what students ultimately pay for a graduate degree. Most of the healthcare management master's degrees in this ranking are designed to be completed in about two years, making total costs relatively predictable.

However, accelerated options like Fitchburg State and Western Governors can be finished in as little as 12 months, potentially reducing both tuition and the indirect costs of staying in school longer.

On the other end of the spectrum, SUNY Empire State's 30-month healthcare management master's and Missouri's three-year program illustrate how longer completion timelines can increase total tuition even when annual costs remain competitive.

Comparing both annual and estimated total tuition provides a more complete picture of overall affordability.

Stories Behind the Cheapest 91³ÉÈË Healthcare Management Master's Degrees: An Editorial Analysis

For Professionals Who Want to Finish Fast

Fitchburg State University

While most programs on this list require about two years, Fitchburg's online MBA in Healthcare Management can be completed in as little as 12 months. It also allows students to pursue dual concentrations, take electives across the MBA portfolio, and complete seven-week courses with multiple start dates throughout the year.

A Public Health Perspective on Healthcare Leadership

University of Missouri

Missouri is unlike nearly every other program because it approaches healthcare leadership through a Master of Public Health. The curriculum emphasizes health policy, behavior change, community health, and program evaluation, with opportunities for dual degrees in public affairs or social work. It also produces one of the strongest student outcomes on the page, with median earnings of $112,520.

Pay by Time, Not by Credits

Western Governors University

No other school on the list structures tuition quite like WGU. Rather than charging per credit, students pay a flat tuition rate every six months. This means that motivated learners can finish more quickly without increasing tuition costs. The competency-based model, one-course-at-a-time structure, and dedicated Program Mentor make this one of the most self-directed programs in the ranking.

FAQs About Affordable 91³ÉÈË Healthcare Management Master's Degrees

How Much Does an 91³ÉÈË Healthcare Management Master's Degree Cost?

Annual in-state tuition for healthcare management master's degree on this affordability ranking ranges from $6,150 to $9,960

Southeast Missouri State offers the lowest annual tuition, while 14 of the 15 schools charge less than $10,000 per year. The narrow spread between the lowest and highest listed tuition makes program length, residency rules, and format especially important when comparing total cost.

Do 91³ÉÈË Healthcare Management Master's Programs Charge Out-of-State Tuition?

Most schools on this list do not. Twelve of the 15 universities charge the same annual tuition for in-state and out-of-state online students, which can make costs easier to compare nationwide. The exceptions are:

  • SUNY Empire State,
  • Maryland Global Campus,
  • Ohio State

These all have higher annual tuition for out-of-state students.

What Should You Compare Beyond Annual Tuition When Choosing an 91³ÉÈË Healthcare Management Master's?

Students should compare program length, student reviews, residency pricing, programmatic accreditation, specialization options, and career alignment.

For example, SEMO offers an AACSB-accredited business foundation, UWF includes nursing leadership practicum hours, Fitchburg State offers a 12-month MBA pathway, and WGU uses a flat-rate, six-month tuition model that may benefit students who can move quickly.

I would not waste your time or money. After $10K I have nothing to show for it, and it’s not for lack of effort. I busted my butt in every single class, like most other people. I work a full time job, try to maintain a normal life, and study as much as possible. 1 class kept me from getting my degree, 1. I attempted to take the exam 3 times, and it didn’t matter if it would’ve been an open book exam, the material never matched what I was studying. I did a lot of research before choosing Western Governors University. The many positives outweigh the cons by far. Here is just a few. The pros: 1). It's accredited 2). Available online, so very convenient for the many of us who work full time 3). One of the least expensive graduate programs out there The cons: 1). For those who need a classroom experience, the online approach isn't the way to go. They assign a "mentor" with weekly calls to keep you motivated but you still have to keep yourself motivated.... I chose Brandman's MBA program because they have a partnership program with my employer and that made it less expensive.
