Southern New Hampshire University is very welcoming. From the first call, what became just a maybe, became a yes. They walk you through your process step by step. There was no surprise in my out of pocket expenses, they were very upfront with everything. The professors are very caring, I had surgery during one of my semesters and was called and checked on , plus given a little extra time to complete my work. At graduation they wee very hands on down to making sure everyone's robe was on correctly... Read More down to making sure makeup was perfect. If it wasn't for this school I wouldn't have my degree. I had all the support from this institution and would recommend it to everyone.

DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL IF YOU ARE FINANCIAL AID RECIPIENT.

SNHU has an awful Financial Aid Department and there's a strong likelihood that any random student can be 鈥渇lagged鈥� for 鈥淪econdary Verification鈥�. When this happens it will be the death of your enrollment there. This will also mean you will not receive your Aid Package disbursement and will be dropped from your classes without appeal mid-term. Your aid will be canceled and then you'll be billed for your tuition.

My experience was as follows:... Read More I started my enrollment process at SNHU in July 2025 for the term starting in September. At no point did they request or offer the opportunity for me to submit my proof of Identity. Both FASFA and BM Technologies (SNHU's bank) asked for ID right away. I supplied it to these two agencies and both of them verified my Identity. FASFA cleared me to receive over $7,000 in Aid for the remainder of the year. BM Technologies also verified my Identity and opened my disbursement account. This represents the agency that gives the money and the agency that disburses it. SNHU is just the school that takes a cut.

After spending months of sometimes daily sometimes weekly contact with SNHU's admissions department I started school on Monday, September 1st. Then on Friday, September 5th I received an email saying I had been selected for 鈥淪econdary ID Verification鈥�,(they never conducted a first one). They wanted photos front and back of my ID and proof of live subject via video. This email was sent on September 5th, it came with a deadline of SEPTEMBER 5TH. Yes, the deadline was the same day they sent it out. I met this deadline and submitted all requested docs through SNHU's own third party provider's portal, with proof of live subject.

The ID provided was a brand new government issued ID, issued two months earlier and is fully compliant with all the new Federal TSA and Homeland Security protocols. A REALID Gold Star ID. I provided full facial recognition scan as well.

I subsequently submitted/uploaded a copy of my Birth certificate front and back, 3 different bank cards front and back in my name, and a second ancillary form of photo ID (photo ID badge from work)

I complained about making a request on the same day as the deadline. I called in as well. Got smart Alec responses and no reply dead-end emails back.

SNHU put all my Aid on hold while 鈥減rocessing鈥� my ID submission. Their provider, 鈥淧ersona鈥� said 3 to 5 business days. SNHU said they needed 7 to 10 business days. This time frame caused a delay in my funding as it was placed 鈥渙n hold鈥�.

After 10 business had expired and my Aid not being disbursed I called and emailed complaints. I had been attending classes and maintaining a grade average in excess of 96 percent in all my classes.

Despite all this, and 100 percent of the problem being SNHU's, I was dropped the day after my complaint about them taking longer than their own set time limit. I said, 鈥淚f I'm late on an assignment my grades suffer. Why are you allowed to be late if im not鈥�

The following day I received an email saying I'd been dropped from class because ,鈥漇NHU was unable to verify my Identity within the allotted 10 day time frame.鈥� Their time frame, their failure, their negligence, their incompetence, BUT MY LOSS, MY PUNISHMENT, MY AID HIJACKED. I'd been dropped from class mid-term and my FASFA money withheld.

They then had the nerve to bill me and tell me I owed then 6000 dollars even though I was approved for an Aid package from FASFA, but SNHU wasn't going to let me have it because they wouldn't accept my state of the art brand new State Issued ID, and abundant additional proofs, having met an exceeded 100% of their own submission requirements without them making any request whatsoever for additional verification. Just summarily dropped without legitimate justification or recourse.

I've filed a complaint with the Department of Education and the BBB. It's still an open case.

SNHU cost me months of time and hard work, followed by loss of my Financial Aid. This set me back four to six months on my education and destroyed many plans I had made while building my life around my attendance and expectation of cash disbursements to defray expenses I had incurred in so doing. I had to break promises made, looked like a liar and a fool to all my friends and family, and am experiencing mental pain and suffering as a result of SNHU's inexcusable, unprofessional and possibly criminal mistreatment of me.

If you expect to be treated well with professionalism and have hopes of receiving cash credits back as part of financing your education with FASFA funding DO NOT CHOOSE Southern New Hampshire University.

My SNHU experience has been nothing but frustrating and disappointing. I was told by my academic advisor for the last year (since April 2024) that this current term is my last term and that I have no additional classes to take. I have this in writing (via emails and program evaluations) numerous times over the last year, and two weeks before the end of this term, my advisor calls me and says "our system messed up. You actually aren't graduating this term and need more classes." Can you imagine mentally... Read More and financially planning to graduate for a whole year, and two weeks before said graduation, you get told oops, our system messed up, so sorry. I am beyond upset by SNHU's incompetence. I am most likely not going to finish my degree now because I do not have the funds, time, or energy to take even more classes. Prior to this fiasco, every term it was something new, some new issue that took WEEKS to MONTHS to figure out, and only because I would constantly email my advisor. Their advisors are not trained properly, nor do they exhibit any type of emotional intelligence. Save yourself the disappointment and frustration and go somewhere else.

First, let's address the elephant in the room... I see a few low-star reviews. Unfortunately, your education will only be as good as the effort you put into it. If you see an assignment and only do the bare minimum to get the grade, that's what you will have. You must be a self-starter and study the material to grasp the information thoroughly. Surely your in-person instructors do not spend every waking moment waiting on your call? Like everything else in life... SNHU is what you make of it. I personally give them 5*!!!

I felt compelled to defend SNHU after reading some of these bad reviews. I honestly cannot base my review off anything with the finance department because I have been paying out of pocket since I began attending. Now, I'm in my early 30s and work in IT, but finishing my BA in Psychology. The adminissions department made the process so easy for me. They actually reached out on my behalf to a community college I attended that I couldn't even get ahold of to transfer any credits. Because of my military... If you're not the best with technology, I could see why it could be frustrating pursuing a degree online. Their interface has improved a lot in the last year, also. All my instructors so far have been accessible, sometimes things get lost in translation with teachers via e-mail, but that seems typical of any work/school situation. The college has a pretty reasonable tuition fee. I am not sure you're going to get much better rates for the quality of education. I have about a year left with the Psychology program. You get what you put in, honestly. If you read all the required material and actually enjoy Psychology, you will succeed. If not, you might struggle. If I did not already work full time (which is how I am able to pay out-of-pocket), I would be finished with my BA by now. Maybe it is because they're located in New Hampshire and I lived near this college for almost 5 years, but for an online program they are flexible and affordable.

I am an adult learner that returned to complete my degree. I was so impressed by the education level of the professors. I had numerous outstanding professors that worked hard to make sure we were engaged as online learners. I loved the format of 8 weeks for each class. Each class followed a similar format of milestones to be met over the span of 8 weeks. If you followed the directives it was easy to plan out the work needed to get the projects done. Standards were high for many and hard work was required to succeed.

I am currently finishing up my last test at SNHU. I have read so many bad reviews here and it is totally not my experience. I used VA benefits which meant 0 out of pocket expenses for me. All the advisers are great but you half to communicate with them if you need help. The tutoring services are helpful but you half to communicate your specific needs to them. The instructors are a mixed bag from great to terrible but that is with any college or university. The courses themselves are easy to navigate... Read More and understand. The courses do require independent research and lots of writing. I have had no issues and have found the whole experience to be quit pleasant. Most of the poor reviews center around financial issues which I cannot speak to because I used VA educational benefits, so I recommend you thoughtfully research that for yourself. I have been able to get certified as a teacher in Texas with the degree from SNHU contingent upon me completing my final term which just started this week. I landed a paid teaching position with an institution of higher learning based on my degree from SNHU. I have not used any career services but my son has and he found them helpful. I did find some instructors to be biased toward their own political opinions but I was never punished for not subscribing to those beliefs. Some of the courses do feel repetitive especially the Psychology classes towards the end. SNHU transferred most all of my credits from military training schools and other universities with no problem. I had an Associates degree coming into the program which helped me get a degree in two years. You can take more than two classes per term but I would recommend starting with just the two until you really get comfortable with the online format. I spend an average of between 5 and 10 hours a week working on assignments. Most of that time is dedicated to research and writing. Overall, I recommend this University but warn that it is not for those who require hand holding. This school is based on the students taking initiative, asking questions, and working independently. My word of advice is simply communication!! You half to be your own advocate and speak up when an issue comes up because in life issues always come up. I disagree. I clearly state that I am a God fearing Christian in every introductory post for all my courses and I have never felt discriminated against. I will first start by saying when I signed up I had high hopes and every intention of putting all that I could into graduating. I am a mother of 3 and worked full time, however my son ended up having issues and needing surgery and so many things started happening in my life which is completely my fault but I still felt that I could do this and I tried but I am not the greatest with technology, I am not terrible by any means but I found their system was very confusing but the online books became my... Read More biggest issue, I couldn't download them no matter what I tried and I explained this and on top of that I could not afford to purchase microsoft word which every assignment was required to be done on and I was not told this until we were already starting the class and it was just so difficult. The adviser was not helpful to me, she was nice but I didn't find her to be helpful and I am upset because they just wrote me off and they took my financial aide and didn't even try and I couldn't afford to pay out of pocket but regardless my experience was nothing like I thought.

I have been attending SNHU since January 2021 and I absolutely love it. While getting my associates degree through my community college, I received no support from the school. At SNHU my counselor registers my classes for me, checks in with me once a semester, and is always there to answer my questions. I enjoy the class content and I have had a few tough professors. When I first started with SNHU it was great, everyone seemed so nice and helpful. As the semesters went on,I noticed that the helpful support and quality course materials had started to dissipate. The majority of the office staff at SNHU appear to be air headed students with no experience in customer service. Im seriously considering leaving this institution, if you file a dispute they will never side with the student. They act as if their professors can do no wrong, but their not even real professors.... Read More They stand firm by the rubric, and issue assignments that have been pre-determined by some committee prior to the semester. My advisor refused to let me talk to the dean and I'm just not feeling this school anymore. They start off great, but once they get you enrolled they could care less about your issues as a student. Im going to petition for the VA to stop supporting this institution. They need to learn how to treat people, especially veterans.

No matter what I say they refuse to listen and their appeals department keeps denying me. Up until then I was pleased with the school. Now I am disappointed and feel they don鈥檛 stand by their values. I work full time, and I am a single mom of two disabled children. I can鈥檛 believe after working so hard all these years my educationally journey would鈥檝e turned out this way due to no fault of my own.
